Trump’s commerce secretary thinks Brexit is a ‘God-given opportunity’ to steal UK business
Other countries see Brexit as a chance to rip the UK’s financial and commercial advantages away.
If Theresa May and her Brexiteers fail to defend us against this – and they will fail; they are too stupid to do anything else – then it won’t be long before these other nations are picking the meat from the bones of our metaphorical carcass.
Brexit has turned out to be a bizarre way of committing the most drawn-out national suicide ever conceived – for which those of us who always opposed it can thank pig-headed Tory backbenchers who demanded the referendum, David Cameron who gave it to them and pushed it on us, Nigel Farage, his poodles at the BBC and the right-wing media for feeding us nonsense propaganda right up to the vote, and of course everybody who believed it all and voted ‘Leave’.
Brexit offers a “God-given opportunity” for foreign businesses to take market share from the UK, according to comments attributed to US President-elect Donald Trump’s new trade chief.
Veteran distressed debt billionaire Wilbur Ross made the comments to finance executives in Cyprus in the period after the referendum – before his appointment by Trump as US commerce secretary – according to reports by the Times.
Ross also urged Cyprus to try to tempt UK firms undergoing “inevitable relocations” as British businesses readjust to new trading conditions if the UK no longer has Single Market membership.
Outgoing President Barack Obama had previously warned the UK would be at the “back of the queue” for trade deals if it left the European Union. However, Trump was in favour of Brexit, even comparing it with his own electoral exploits as “Mr Brexit”.

Sorry but those in power see it an eccuse for more power. Hasn’t anyone been watching. I am disabled but I am a carer for someone who is bipolar. A friend. Been for 5 wca appointment’s had local job center calling telling me I have to do work centre interview. I am in the support group. Leicester city benefits group told me to do the appointment and they would sort it in 3 months.
The so called “referendum” was only ever a battle for the heart of the nasty Tory Party. Cameron recklessly and irresponsibly called it in order to consolidate his own career. Johnson, the dishonest hypocrite, jumped onto the bandwagon which he selfishly thought would enable him to replace Cameron. Theresa May sat, almost silently and selfishly on the side lines waiting to see which way the wind would blow, before making her career move. In the wings were the thoroughly unpleasant Duncan-Smith and Gove, and on top of it all was the empty and loathsome racist rabble rouser Farage. None of these clowns ever gave even a tiny thought to the future of the nation, they were interested only in their own selfish, nasty careers. Today, the whole stupid farce is still a battle for the nasty Tory Party, the future of the nation is right at the bottom of their priority list.
He’s right. And with Marcus Fox as head of foreign trade negotiations I would imagine Ross’ thesis will end up a dead cert.
