HMRC empowered to name and shame tax evasion ‘enablers’ – but will it?
Until This Writer sees major names being penalised in a big way, this will be nothing but a sop for the whiners.
Tax advisers, accountants and lawyers who aid the super-rich with offshore tax evasion will face tough new penalties from New Year’s Day, with HMRC now able to publicly name and shame “enablers”.
The Treasury said the government’s new powers would see individuals or corporations who take deliberate action to help others evade paying tax facing fines of up to 100% of the tax they helped evade or £3,000, whichever is highest.

£3,000. That would really hit them where their spare cash is.
On the other hand, for £3,000 they get great targeted advertising.
simple answer no they will still go after the little guys because that is easier and the fine of £3,000 is a reflection of that intent.
“……but will it?” In a word – NO!
It was a Labour government who introduced DOTAS (Declaration of Tax Avoidance schemes) which has been relatively successful for the most part bringing in significant yield for the Treasury. http://warr.co.uk/just-for-the-rich/ Not so the tories, they continue to give tax breaks to their millionaire pals http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/7-ways-george-osbornes-budget-7567928 The aim of the Conservatives is as it says on the tin … to CONSERVE their wealth and if it is at the expense of the poor and vulnerable, it doesn’t bother them one bit. The only way to stop them is not to vote for them at the next general election.
considering how much money is hidden off shore in secrecy jurisdictions then a fine of £3000 max. isnt going to bother them one bit. They are shameless anyway so why would a few discreet lines in an obscure publication stop anything. Its all thieving from the public purse and should be treated as if they had stolen the Crown Jewels. Big deal you tories.
name and shame tax evasion ‘enablers’ what a load of rubbish why not stop them practicing take theACCA to licence of them
All of these deliberate delays are around allowing time for the shy abstainers to ensure that their cash is secreted deeper than any of HM Flunkies are capable of finding let alone recovering. Bearing in mind ex HM iInspectors have been very cosy with the major accountants and in fact some joining them upon their retirement then I hold very little hope anything much will happen. Yeah I guess a few unfavourable lefty entertainers will be named and shamed but I doubt if any Cons mates will make the headlines. HM Tax had the biggest list of names ever from a brave whistle blower and of this huge list very few were named and shamed. It is another Cons lie which reveals just how much HM Tax Office is in the pocket of Government and not doing their job independantly. In other words yet another waste of space full of pensionable expensive civil servants chasing the easy to catch minions and plebs to milk them dry.
Yet another example of Conservatives “talking a good game” to appear to be doing the right thing, but never daring to come up with the goods.
I found this article which touches upon the HMRC hypocracy and goes a long way to explaining why the tax evasion revelations will never ever happen.

hmm the real tax avoiders like camerooon and his erk will not be chased but the peasants who will be
We will have to wait and see. Actions speak far louder than words and I would like action taken against those who are already avoiding paying tax by off-shore accounts.
