Lying to the electorate: Theresa May tries to buy – with lies – Tory votes in Stoke
Read the letter (above), sent by your unelected Prime Minister, Theresa May, to voters in the Stoke-on-Trent central by-election, which is due to take place next Thursday (February 23).
See the part that has been highlighted? About Stoke’s two other Labour MPs voting against Brexit?
That is a lie.
And it’s a huge one, because the whole letter relies on voters believing Labour would betray the wish of the people of Stoke-on-Trent Central – as demonstrated in the EU referendum last year – for the UK to leave the European Union.
Stoke MPs Ruth Smeeth and Rob Flello voted to support the Article 50 Bill at its Third Reading – as Mrs May knows perfectly well – because Labour is a democratic party and has agreed to enact the will of the people.
So Mrs May’s claim that they “voted against” Brexit is a lie.
The claim that “Labour MPs have been trying to stop that, or slow it down” is a lie.
The claim that “They seem to be intent on finding new ways of frustrating the process of leaving” is a lie.
In fact the whole letter is based on a lie.
So the people of Stoke-on-Trent Central may safely conclude that Theresa May and the Conservative Party are liars – and vote Labour instead.

It’s not even a difficult lie to disprove, nor something that could be considered a mere mistake – several people must have been involved in drafting and checking it! May’s just relying on constituents taking her at her word, which is phenomenally stupid!
It is incorrect, only Paul Farrelly, Newcastle voted against, but the tories couldn’t buy enough votes to have a feline in a hot places chance of winning in Stoke Much the same as the unelected tory prime minister cameron lied during the referendum and the unelected prime minister blair lied about weapons of mass destruction with his unelected prime minister brown having to sign the constitution which they both lied was different as it had been renamed the lisbon treaty. No Prime minister has ever been elected to the position by public sufferance or sufrage.
Tony Blair was elected.
If this is true then we are following the Trump style. How disrespectful and underhand are our Political leaders going to get. There is ONLY WINNING however you achieve it !!
We need a party that tells it as it is – good or bad . Utopia
will the cost of the printing and postage of all these letters be declared as an election expense?
Of course the PM is unelected. The PM is not and has never been directly elected. That’s the way the system works in this country.
You are arguing a technicality. A party leader is elected into the role of prime minister if the people have a chance to vote for that person’s party and policies in a general election. Mrs May is unelected because nobody had that opportunity.
Not only that, but she wasn’t even elected leader of the Conservative Party in a respectable way. They ran a couple of rounds of the process and then her remaining opponent backed down. Nobody actually voted for Mrs May.
Truth! What Truth. Non to be seen here.
I quite agree. Mrs May’s letter is nothing but a pack of lies.
I think that Labour might keep Stoke and lose Copeland. What happens if Labour loses Copeland? Has any Labour leader in opposition – supposed opposition – lost such a seat near to the middle of a parliament and gone on to win the next election? If Labour loses Copeland shouldn’t Jeremy Corbyn AND those closest to him being to consider their positions? I don’t think that Labour can win the next election under any leader but might win several more seats under a more plausible leader. Surely this is a better outcome than an even bigger defeat than last time under Corbyn? Even though he feels that quitting would let down the large number of people who supported him and voted him into the position he is currently struggling to occupy?
What a lot of nonsense. If you think Labour might lose Copeland, let’s see your reasoning.
Instead you have given us the usual hogwash about why you don’t like Jeremy Corbyn. We know you don’t. That’s no reason for any of us to let you fill our heads with nonsense arguments based on hot air.
