Tories: The party of the workers – if you live in southeast England
It was about time the cruel Tory lie about being the ‘party of the workers’ was exposed, and now we have the figures.
Half of all jobs created in the UK since the Tories took over in 2010 have been in London and southeast England, where the Conservative Party has its strongholds – but even those are subject to an average real earnings drop of £1,200.
So not only are there fewer jobs in the majority of the UK, but they don’t pay enough to make having them worthwhile in any case. So you have to try to find more than one job to make ends meet – if there are more available.
Party of the workers? Party of work-till-you-drop, more like!
London and the South-East have accounted for almost half of all net jobs created in the UK since 2010, despite accounting for only a quarter of the population, according to new figures highlighted by the Labour Party.
Labour analysis of official Government figures shows that just one net job in 200 has been created in the North East, while some more affluent regions have raced ahead, revealing the huge regional disparities in job creation under the Conservatives.
The news comes as separate figures figures from the House of Commons Library show that average real earnings are set to fall by £1,200, due to rising inflation and slower wage growth.
A cruel combination of higher prizes and lower wages since the EU referendum mean that living standards will be squeezed further, say Labour.
