Labour’s plan to end hospital car parking charges in England is just one of many great NHS policies

Last Updated: May 8, 2017By

Jeremy Corbyn. His Labour Party is “for the many – not the few” – and his policies make this clear.

This Writer, as a resident of Wales who must travel to England to attend hospital appointments for an ill partner (Mrs Mike), welcomes Jeremy Corbyn’s announcement.

But let’s put it in perspective – it is only one of many great announcements about the NHS.

Let’s have a look:

If you see a Tory, remind them: The NHS is better under Labour.

Labour will end car parking charges at NHS England hospitals by raising insurance tax on private healthcare to 20%, Jeremy Corbyn has said.

He vowed a Labour government would make parking free for patients, visitors and NHS staff, with the £160m annual cost of the policy paid for by the insurance increase.

Last month, a freedom of information request by the union Unison revealed some hospitals are charging staff, including nurses struggling with low wages, nearly £100 a month to park, resulting in reports of nurses having to rush out between appointments to move their cars to avoid fines.

have always thought these charges are disgusting for staff and patients. especially. even disabled people with blue badges have to pay at most hospitals.making it very difficult for those patients to get to the main doors before then having to find a way to get to the dept they need, often a long walk from the main entrance.

There are still some hospitals in Wales where there are car parking charges. One is Glangwili, Carmarthen, where out of hours pediatrics and all consultant-led (emergency) maternity care is taken from Pembrokeshire. However our local hospital has free parking.

Interesting. Of course, whether Welsh hospitals charge for parking is up to the Welsh Government, health being a devolved matter. Isn’t it?
