Ignorant DWP minister said women robbed of their pensions should become APPRENTICES
The state of this.
Guy Opperman is the latest in a long line of Tory gits who have set up shop at the Department for Work and Pensions.
I shan’t mention their dirty deeds because I’m sure Chris Grayling, Esther McVey, Priti Patel, Damian Green, Stephen Crabb and – below all – Iain Duncan Smith need no introduction.
Mr Opperman’s role in the Tory DWP’s history of depravity begins like this:
A Tory minister sparked fury today after suggesting women “robbed” of their pension could take up an apprenticeship.
Guy Opperman was heckled with shouts of “shame on you” and “disgraceful” from campaigners in a packed debate in the House of Commons’ Westminster Hall.
The pensions minister faced cross-party calls to offer help to 2.6million women born in the 1950s who say their pension age rose at short notice.r several hours.
But Mr Opperman said the government had done a “massive amount” already, telling MPs: “The reality is over 200,000 people over 60 have entered further education since 2014/15.
“We have also extended apprenticeship opportunities as one of the best routes to skilled employment for people of all ages and gender.
“Such apprenticeships in England, for example, in 2014/15… 12% of the starting apprenticeships were for those aged 45.”
His ignorant outburst won him the full attention of some of our favourite MPs:
Staggering response from Pensions Minister on the plight of #WASPI women. Suggesting they go on apprenticeships! Ludicrous. #WestminsterHall

The Minister's response to this #WASPI debate is an utter embarrassment. Can't really say much else on it…

I second that. 😊 Thanks on behalf of my missus who watched the Minister @GuyOpperman suicide himself & the #Tory party in one fell swoop.

Yes, it's true: my neighbouring MP @GuyOpperman really did suggest that #WASPI women should seek apprenticeships. Talk about out of touch.

I particularly like this comment from a member of the public:

Let us hope that Ms Lait finds her way into the Labour Party fairly soon, if she is not already a member – because at this rate it won’t be long before the public demands the removal of the Tories from office, once and for all.

I wonder if you need special training to become a Tory politician, or whether crass stupidity, incompetence and complete non-empathy simply come naturally?
These people are total prats, but nasty with it. The only spare public money they have is for keeping the nasty Tory Party clinging to power.
Perhaps he should do something useful with apprenticeships like return them to what hey used to be when you got a skilled trade out of it.
“200,000 have an entered higher education”. Er… No doubt, but it actually costs the same for over 60s as for 18 yr olds, and the only ones doing that may not need the State Pension, just guessing. I actually fancied a distance learning course (delivered online) and the cost was £5000 for two years in fees. That is the average, but if I bit the bullet I might be able to get an entry level sub-graduate job, aged 65! As long as workplace adaptations for mobility impaired wheelchair user were funded by the employer. Thanks for nothing, Tories, you utter failures. How dare you insult us with this workhouse / parish poor law mentality for ” old workless women”.
How is it the Cons have such a bountiful supply of complete and utter prats. None of these total idiots have any comprehension or understanding of the actual impact of their usually greed motivated decision and the rule of fairness on those their ill judged decisions impact. Worse when their grey cell eventually glimmers on its floppy stem they still do not have the integrity to admit their mistakes and amend to a much more fairer situation. They really deserve their low life dark side reputation.
During her speech, Mhairi often said she knew what to expect from the Tory response. I bet she didn’t expect anything quite as crass as this specimen.
The tories are learning from Trump; it doesn’t matter how stupid, cretinous, utterly imbecilic you are, the gullible idiots will still vote for you.
But Mr Opperman said the government had done a “massive amount” already, telling MPs: “The reality is over 200,000 people over 60 have entered further education since 2014/15.”
why does he think this happens? from time gone by, when i was a young teenager, older people have been taking college courses getting degrees for this that and tother not to get a better job. they were already retired. but to keep their brains active as their bodies become less active. thus staving off senility/alzheimers for a bit longer. seems to me, whatever we do to keep going, those damned millionaire politicians in power will find a reason other than the true one(they dont know what truth is) to make people work for longer. we arent allowed to live and have any leisure time at all. while they go sailing off on their yaghts, or flying off in their private planes to places we can only dream of. hope they all sink
That DWP minister should be removed from his job he wants to live in the real world with people who are trying to manage my husband has worked all his life and now after 4 heart attacks angina back problems walking problems toilet problems and PTSD serving his country for 25 years he can no longer work that minister doesn’t deserve to have a job
