Phone Hacking Trial: Brooks ‘did not know’ about Mulcaire’s £92,000-a-year contract, trial hears – Martin Hickman

As a former newspaper editor I find it very suspicious that Rebekah Brooks says she did not know how much money was being paid to reporters. When I was a newspaper editor we had regular weekly meetings in which the paper’s finances were a major part. If editorial had gone over budget, I would have been quizzed about this and would have needed to know the answers. It stretches credibility, to my way of thinking, for the former editor of a national newspaper to say she did not have access to that information.
