‘Dangerous’ cuts to support are ‘exposing government’s ILF lies’

Last Updated: September 13, 2015By

“Dangerous” cuts to the care packages of former recipients of Independent Living Fund (ILF) support are exposing “false” government promises that they would not lose out when the fund closed, say campaigners.

One London council, Waltham Forest, has admitted cutting the support packages of 28 former ILF-users since the fund closed at the end of June, even though it received nearly one million pounds from the government to maintain support for them and about 40 other former ILF-recipients for the rest of 2015-16.

Of the 28 disabled people whose support has been cut in Waltham Forest, disabled campaigners are aware of at least eight who have experienced “really significant” cuts.

Last month, Disability News Service (DNS) revealed that another London council, Hounslow, had slashed a disabled woman’s support by 48 hours a week after the fund closed.

What? The government lied? Shock, horror! In 2010 David Cameron made a pledge “To the people” and broke 10 of his pledges within two years of the coalition taking office. Osborne’s economic policies are a total disaster but still a big bunch of dullards voted him back in. Go figure.

The Govt removed the ILF and then put the responsibility of a replacement on local councils, which are already starved of funds due to Tory cutbacks in payments to them, in order that the heat be taken off the Govt and passed to the councils instead; the usual ploy of a Tory govt, take no responsibilty for anything and blame everyone else. . .especially the people who are ill and disabled, how dare they be so and in need of extra financial support to allow them to lead a life.

Sadly all of Tory policies are based on lies and nothing will change but only get worse, those that voted for them should hang their heads in shame.

I’m O.K. Joe are probably supporters of this evil bunch of lying hypocrites, but it will come back to bite them on the bum.

Osborne, Cameron and IDS and others are not fit to run a garden party yet alone a country.

DC please go back to Cornwall we are safer when you are away. I will willingly pay for your lobsters just stay clear from the HoC.

Yet my local borough – Newcastle-under-Lyme – thinks it’s the right time for them to build a new town hall costing £10 million, whilst I see my neighbour with a disabled adult son struggling to pay the council tax each month. The LA are also putting people through hell during their care assessments, where they try to cut the support to the bone.

We’re disgusted here to say the least.

The tories truly are the nasty, greedy party, all they care about is lining their pockets with money that belongs to the country and spreading lies about the ill and poor of our nation. Time these fascists were brought to heel!
