Jeremy Hunt meet-and-greet drinks event cancelled after junior doctors buy tickets

Shame: No drinks with Jeremy this evening [Image: PA].

There’s a very clear message in this story:

If you try to force people to accept a particular set of conditions that then make you afraid to share a room with them, then your conditions probably aren’t very nice.

Could there be a clearer way to demonstrate that even Jeremy Hunt knows his cruel contract for junior doctors is bad for them and dangerous for patients?

Jeremy Hunt has cancelled a ‘meet and greet’ drinks event tonight, after junior doctors bought tickets.

The Health Secretary was to appear at the wine and nibbles night for Fareham Conservative Association – but it was scrapped after activists circulated the invitation on social media.

The invitation to the £15-a-head fundraiser read: “Join the association & the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt for drinks and canapés at the Lysses House Hotel, High Street, Fareham.”

The event has been cancelled and removed from Fareham Tories’ website.

It’s unclear how many doctors bought tickets for the event.

This reminds me of the controversial talk that was cancelled because they did not like the ‘negative social media activity’ and the planned protest by Black Triangle.

“In the run-up to his LSE talk, his [Adam Perkins] views were denounced as “grotesque” on Twitter, and disability rights group Black Triangle appeared to be organising a picket and protest on the day. “I think [work and pensions secretary] Iain Duncan Smith would love this idea as it fits the Tory notion of ‘benefits scroungers’,” said the group’s Facebook page.”

Can not imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to meet Jeremy Hunt socially can you? The sheer thought of watching him poke a canape into that pointy little mouth of his is stomach churning!

  3. Mr public servant

Surely there must be a mechanism for removing this dick from office before he does any more Damage?
