Nicky Morgan mocked in song as she’s laughed at by teachers at NASUWT conference

Gary Kaye: He’s a media studies teacher.

This is brilliant.

Not only are people picking up on the fact that, if Thicky Nicky’s eyes are mirrors of her soul, then it must be vacant – but the people who’ve realised it are teachers.

The Huffington Post has been brilliant in its coverage of the Education secretary’s confrontation with teachers’ union the NASUWT, which just happens to coincide with the YouTube release of the single Nicky Morgan’s Eyes by teachers’ punk band Gary Kaye and The Enemies of Promise.

So let’s have a look at both in action. First we’ll have Nicky Morgan addressing the NASUWT, then the punk video she inspired.

A song mocking Nicky Morgan has emerged as the eduction secretary was on Saturday heckled after telling a teachers’ conference that schools had improved over the last five years.

The Tory minister also angered teachers at the NASUWT teachers’ conferences in Birmingham as she urged unions to “be more helpful” and not issue press releases that relay negative news.

The song, released by a teacher’s punk rock group, was written in protest at the academisation of schools and the “pressures on teachers”.

The song, released on YouTube by media studies teacher Gary Kaye, is called ‘Nicky Morgan’s Eyes’.

Lines in the song appear to echo teachers and unions in saying the profession’s workload is unmanageable and academies are data-driven.

The final line of the song is: “Nicky don’t need her eyes to see. Nicky has parted from reality.”

That lines should be sung at her, everywhere she goes.

In fact, let’s have all the lyrics so nobody misses the references:

Based on the song “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” by The Adverts, with permission from TV Smith

    Nicky Morgan’s Eyes

I’m sitting in the teaching hub, trying to plan my week
But the spreadsheet needs some data and the raise on line looks bleak
I’m looking at my colleagues and much to my surprise
They all require improvement and then I realise

I’m looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eye
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes

I’m standing in the playground with a massive bunch of keys
I’m giving them to businessmen who run academies
I don’t believe that teachers should be properly qualified
Experience counts for nothing and then I realise

I’m looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eye
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes

I’m looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eye
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes

The teachers are all cowering and fearing for their jobs
And Ofsted are marauding like a bunch of mindless yobs
I look into a mirror, I scream and I despise
I hate what I am seeing and then I realise

I’m looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eye
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes

I’m looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eye
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes
    Looking through Nicky Morgan’s eyes

Nicky don’t need her eyes to see
    Nicky has parted from reality.!

Once all schools become academies sympathy strikes and picketing will become illegal like they are with private employers. Only one group of teachers will be able to strike at any one time.

Let’s face it, good tory ministers of education are as rare as hen’s teeth. As a very old, long retired teacher the only decent one I remember was Sir Edward Boyle, minister from 1962-64: he was fully committed to comprehensive education. He became disenchanted with tory politics and was also very much against Enoch Powell’s style of racism. I doubt if he would recognise these tories as his party. So, eat your heart out, Thickie Nickie: there are former ministers of education, not many though, who you could model yourself on. Instead you model yourself on Idiot Gove.
So one laughing stock follows another, except teachers and kids haven’t much to laugh about.
