A Morecambe Councillor is taking part in a solo charity event later in the summer, to highlight the work done by Labour MP Jo Cox, who was killed last week.

Councillor Joshua Brandwood is raising funds to support her favourite charity – HOPE not Hate.

He’ll be doing a 15 mile run in Morecambe on the 1st of August.

Cllr Brandwood said: “Since the tragic death of MP Jo Cox there has been a lot focus on her killer, rather than the great work she once did for our country.

“The speculation around her death made me angry, but I was then reminded that Jo was not an individual who operated with hate.

“She used her passion and affection to improve the lives of others. In celebration and memory of MP Jo Cox, I am raising funds to support a charity closest to her heart, chosen by her family: HOPE not Hate, who seek to challenge and defeat the politics of hate and extremism within local communities across Britain.

“I will be carrying out a 15 mile run in Morecambe which will also be recorded and placed on Youtube (you will get to laugh at my expense, I assure you!). I have planned to carry out my fundraiser on the 1st August 2016.”
