It’s a question many people have been asking on the social media, so let’s give it a more formal status:

Former Liberal Democrat councillor Jennifer Churchill defected to Labour last September, in support of Jeremy Corbyn. Now, it seems, she supports Owen Smith.

Clearly, she has been a member of another political party within the last year.

Does this mean she has been disqualified from voting in the current Labour leadership election?

If not, why not?

It seems clear that decisions made in what’s being called the ‘Labour Purge’ have no factual basis.

It is being run by members of the National Executive Committee, at least some of whom are to relinquish their seats at the party conference after being ousted by supporters of Jeremy Corbyn.

This is a clear conflict of interest that has not been addressed by anybody in the party machine.

A Liberal Democrat councillor has defected to Labour in support of Jeremy Corbyn, becoming Richmond’s first Labour councillor in more than 13 years.

Teddington Councillor Jennifer Churchill, partner of the borough’s former Lib Dem leader and fellow Councillor Stephen Knight, said new party leader Tim Farron “doesn’t seem to stand for anything”.

She also criticised her former party for “parroting Tory economic propaganda”.

Oh, so it is okay for a person who undoubtedly publicly belonged to an opposing Party a year ago, can then defect to the Labour Party, stating they support Jeremy Corbyn. But when an election for Labour Party leader later ensues, said person decides to now vote for the Labour MP opposing the incumbent leader.

Apparently she can vote in the Leader Election.

However, many longstanding Labour members have had their membership suspended, apparently because the NEC have decided they have made misleading or ‘damaging’ comments on social media, or may have been involved in other political affiliations at some time.

It appears that the vast majority of those suspended have advocated voting for Jeremy Corbyn. It is mind boggling that any of those members who support Corbyn’s opponent do not appear to have been suspended? Curiouser and curiouser….

Needs urgently sorting out especially if these negative members are to go….they are the last ones to be involved in any decisions and should have resigned from any further duties … if they had any integrity..
