Theresa May telling daughters they should listen to their fathers on the Women2Win video.

Wow. What a way to reveal oneself to be a sexist – especially when you’re a female prime minister.

Why can’t mothers talk to their daughters about current affairs and politics, Theresa May?

Do you think they shouldn’t worry their pretty little heads about it?

That would seem a highly hypocritical attitude from the UK’s current – female – prime minister.

Fathers must talk to their daughters about current affairs and politics to ensure more women become MPs and “aim high”, Theresa May has said.

In a moving video for a campaign to get more women in politics, the Prime Minister spoke emotionally about her relationship with her father as she appealed for greater diversity in parliament.

A number of male Tory MPs also appeared in the video to call for a more “equal” world for their daughters.

Well there is the possibility that it was May’s own father that spoke to her about politics rather than her mother, and that to be honest is the more likely scenario, however it is better than just saying we should have all female shortlists which discriminates against able male applicants simply because of their gender.

Coming from a poor background in 50s/60s, Dad working all hours, Mum bringing up six kids. Even if they were interested in politics, (remember we only had newspapers); we never talked about it. I came to politics quite late in the day, and had a number positions in the local CLP and was very active. I have always believed that youngsters should be taught the rudimentaries of politics, and why they should be involved, in school. Now I speak to my grandchildren and they know how I feel, and we have some good discussions about current political situations.

Thank goodness May wasn’t around 40+ years ago, because it was my mother who discussed politics with me, my father was too much of a sexist – nearly as bad as Teresa May and watched football and other sport rather than news and current affairs.
What a sexist thing to say. She is assuming that women are air heads and men “Know best”. Duh.

Or, could it be that she is trying to make men engage with their daughters in the same way that they engage with their sons? It says nothing of women being airheads, or even that they don’t talk to their daughters. She feels that her father helped her to break into what was seen as a male dominated world and perhaps, if other men had similar discussions with their daughters, it might not seem off limits, for want of a better expression. I’m just supposing.

In fairness, that really isn’t how it seems.
