‘I suffer three fits a day and need a carer – but government cut my benefits and say I’m fit to work’ – Hull Daily Mail
A father-of-four who claims to suffer daily epileptic seizures says he has contemplated taking his own life after being told by the government that is he is fit to work.
Peter Dixon, 52, who also suffers from bowel disorders, arthritis, anxiety and depression, vehemently believes he should receive Employment Support Allowance (support group), giving him a weekly income of up to £109.65.
However, following a work capability assessment it has been decided that Mr Dixon is able to work, and is only entitled to Jobseekers’ Support Allowance of £73.10 a week.
“I have actually thought about suicide. I was going to leave a letter saying, ‘Sorry. Bye.’ It’s only the thought of my kids, and my parents who are in their 70s that has stopped me.”

Let them find 1 employer that would pay him while he had a fit, recovered from it or was late for work because he had a fit and ended up in hospital. Although some might say they would consider a person with the right qualifications for a job they would never get the job. Even the local ASDA won’t employ me as a cleaner because I have epilepsy, simply because the job involves using machinery i.e. using a buffer on the shop floor.
