Royals SHOULD comment on political issues, readers say
That was the verdict of readers of This Site, by a majority of almost nine to one.
After it was reported that Prince Harry had criticised a lack of national leadership over the closure of youth clubs, This Site asked: Should the Royal Family comment on political issues?
The result was unequivocal. 88.21 per cent of you said they should have a say, at least sometimes.
Of those, 60.55 per cent – a clear majority of respondents – thought the Royals should be able to speak out, whenever they deem it necessary.
Only 11.79 per cent of you thought the Royals should be seen and not heard.
One wonders what the Prince would have to say about attempts to drive the homeless away from Windsor, in advance of his wedding.

Sorry to disagree with many people that I would probably support on other matters, but I voted for the Royals to stay out of politics. The people of Britain struggled long and hard, with great loss of life at times, to bring democratic principles into play. I know, I know, Harry seems to be a decent chap and he has made a good choice for his partner, but what if we let them all speak out? Prince Philip was a bit of a rebel in his day but now he just seems to be a grumpy old “Brexit” type. Imagine the effect his comments would have in keeping Nigel Farage and the country tweed set in fashion.
If I recall, the Queen Mother was a terrible snob and reactionary.
We encourage them to speak out at our peril.
I am a Republican. So my personal view on all this is unprintable.
I have been wondering that myself. about the powers that be trying to drive the homeless away from the wedding area…. i wish i knew of a way to let Prince Harry and Megan know. (assuming they dont already know of course. but could they intervene if they did know?
Any comment yet from any of the so called royal family regarding the dreadful treatment of the sick and disabled in the UK over the last six years by Her Majesty’s Governments that have been so roundly condemned, repeatedly, by numerous Members of Parliament, the Medical Profession no less, associated Charities, and none other than the United Nations for Heaven’s sake? Any Comment? Anything at all? Maybe I missed something!
They should speak out afterall the tax payers fund a life style that ordinary people can only dream about, and government Should take notice!! I agree with Pat What about the Murders of sick and disabled People who have A right to live, Prisoners are treat with much more humanity.
I personally don’t have any time for the royals, they don’t do a thing for this country except bleed it dry of money that they Don’t earn, whilst people who Do work hard are Starving and penalised for not getting more hours!!
You’re reading my mind .. I very much agree with you..
Maybe someone should ask the Queen how she feels about the Tories killing off her subject.
As a Republican I have to say that allowing the Windsor (or any other unelected dynasty) a say in politics is a dangerous precedent.
