Never mind Brexit – first major poll since Theresa May’s crunch EU speech reveals appetite for general election
If anything, the ComRes poll for the Mirror reveals as much division over Brexit as there ever was.
Probably the most telling response was the amount of support for a general election. I wonder how many people would have demanded it if they had been asked a straight question: “Do you want another general election?”
My guess is, more than half. All things considered, that would have been decisive.
Let’s have another poll, with questions that are more to the point.
Nearly one in five voters want Theresa May to call another General Election.
And that rises to nearly a third in the 25-34 age group. A quarter of voters in South East Tory heartlands also favour her going to the country again.
An exclusive ComRes survey for the Sunday Mirror held after the PM’s big Brexit speech on Friday showed 19 per cent of voters wished she’d announced going to the polls.
