Ryanair chief threatens to ground cheap flights to persuade voters to ‘rethink’ Brexit | Mirror Online

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary.

Add serious disruptions to air travel to the growing list of Brexit crises.

Ryanair is threatening to ground its planes to persuade voters to “rethink” Brexit .

Michael O’Leary, the budget airline’s chief executive, said he wants to “create an opportunity” by making people realise they are “no longer going to have cheap holidays.”

Mr O’Leary warned that there would be a “real crisis” as flights between the UK and the EU are disrupted after Brexit.

The single market for aviation, created in the 1990s, means there are no commercial restrictions for airlines flying within the EU.

Mr O’Leary has repeatedly warned that airlines will be forced to cancel post-Brexit services from March 2019 if no agreement is reached in the Brexit negotiations by September, because schedules are planned about six months in advance.

The harsh and unpleasant realities that go with the stupidity of Brexit have to be brought home to people. The clock cannot be turned back.

Regardless of which side of the debate you sit, this kind of behaviour is unpalatable and unacceptable. If he wants ground his flights, that is up to him but to do it in order to bully people into supporting his point of view, thus influence democracy, is the epitome of everything the people despise about big business in this day and age.
