Commons Speaker John Bercow denies bullying after former staffer ‘suffered PTSD’ | Mirror Online
The Speaker of the House of Commons has flatly denied shock bullying claims after a BBC probe.
John Bercow was named as part of a wider Newsnight investigation in which Parliamentary staff claimed they work in a “culture of fear”.
Allegations were also made about Tory MP Mark Pritchard and Labour’s Paul Farrelly.
The BBC programme claimed Mr Bercow had “a reputation as a bully”, highlighting Kate Emms’ short-lived tenure as his private secretary from May 2010 to February 2011.
The programme interviewed colleagues who alleged she was undermined by Mr Bercow and he appeared to frequently shout at her.
Parliamentary authorities were later told she had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Newsnight reported.
But the Speaker’s spokeswoman said: “The Speaker completely and utterly refutes the allegation that he behaved in such a manner, either eight years ago, or at any other time.
“Any suggestion to the contrary is simply untrue.”

Anyone would think that MPs and the staff of the H of P had nothing better to do than continually drag up the past of those in the public eye. how come that its now 8 years since this ALLEGEDLY happened yet not a peep from anyone else . he must have had another secretary since then, plus come in contact with 1000s of other people in that time.Bullying doesnt come under the “TOO EMBARRASSED TO SPEAK UP” UMBRELLA DOES IT? cant they find anything more incriminating thats happened more recently with back up from more than one person?? i’m dead against bullying and i dont normally defend a tory but this is ridiculous.
