10,000 additional deaths in first weeks of 2018 – because the Tories are under-funding the NHS?
The Conservative Government is under pressure to explain why more than 10,000 “additional deaths” happened during the first seven weeks of this year, in comparison with the previous five years.
But we know the answer already, don’t we?
Those deaths happened because Jeremy Hunt – and his leader, Theresa May – cut funding to such a low level that they caused the NHS “winter crisis”, with patients dying at home, in ambulances, or in hospital corridors as they waited for overworked medical staff to examine them.
The news media were full of such stories at the end of last year and the beginning of 2018 – and the response from the government was always the same: They were providing more funds, ministers said.
In numbers, that may have been true – but in real terms, funding was not keeping up with demand, and people died.
This is the reality of Tory policy: They think money is more important than human lives.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for any Tory investigation into their own incompetence – or indifference.
They won’t release any information that is even faintly damning of them.
Even their excuses have become hackneyed and stereotyped.
Experts have called on the Government to explain why there were more than 10,000 “additional deaths” in England and Wales in the first few weeks of 2018.
An editorial published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) showed that during the first seven weeks of the year, there were 93,990 deaths. But in the same period over the previous five years an average of 83,615 people died.
The authors from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University of Oxford have called on the Government and health service bosses to urgently investigate and explain the rise.
“This rise of 12.4 per cent, or 10,375 additional deaths, was not due to the ageing of the population,” the editorial read.
The data, collected weekly by the Office of National Statistics also excludes that these deaths were all caused by this year’s exceptionally high flu levels.

and the real total of disability deaths, increase in suicides of vulnerable, elderly, ex-vets, mental health sufferers sex abuse victims, the assistance in their hundreds of thousands of people in hospital to be killed under the euthanasia Liverpool Care Approach programme (without the patient ot family’s knowledge or agreement) the increase of deaths in elderly due to cold related diseases 31,000 in 3 winter months of 2012/13 40,000 2014/15 50,000 2016. and deaths in hospital or community due to no places or treatment in hospital and cut off from right to have treatment.
the deaths I reckon are more than British People killed throughout the world in WW2 both military and civilian
and I thought the greatest number of British Killed in Peacetime History BY THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT I was surprised when it outnumbered the deaths in the Jewish Polish Ghettos of WW2, also people cut off from basics
But it seems the deaths of British People in last few years is only outdone by the Black Death and WW1.
and that is by the official figures
what about the unofficial figures?
I would never trust a doctor. I have been on end of service and worked in it
I and my family were cut off and denied care and treatment and dismissed until too late due to being working class. the assumption blatantly said was people like us are liars, malingerers and too stupid.
I have suffered not receiving basic treatment such as anti biotics, mum suffered internal bleeding for ages covered everything, including me when she slept next to me, she as lying as she was working class, eventually collapsed in a toilet having haemoraghed 4 pints of blood. and dad again denied worked all his life too very little out, but even at the end he must be lying so got nothing until too late and the only place was to death nursing home.
and I have seen over and over and over again patients denied, dismissed and told they are liars because of their background to serious outcomes, deterioration in illness to permanent disability or often death.
Like the Police I like the idea of NHS in principle, but in reality different.
Bevan said the medical professionals were not interested in the welfare and health of the poor and working class, So no ethics there. “He had to FILL THEIR MOUTHS WITH GOLD!” to get them to agree and work with the NHS system and idea.
So no halos there. and never has been.
Its not just politicians and money who do not care about people, the medical and nursing profession also does not care and is told not to care by management, unions and professional bodies.
The Unions say NHS is not about patient care or good nursing and health standards. it is its own political powerful monied monster perpetuating itself.
Not flu! Not ageing! Could be part of the ‘cull’ then? Got rid of a few now then ‘aven’t they! Just think of the savings – soon ‘ave that ‘deficit’ sorted eh?
Will you please relegate underfunding to at least second place in causality. All you are doing is giving the Tories the excuse they want (austerity) and the diversion they need. the main reason for the deaths is twofold: terrible management systems imposed on the organisations, i.e. targets, excessive governance and valueless reporting, and dreadful (and deliberate) resource and funding planning.
It is death by a thousand cuts, and I don’t mean monetary. So stop letting them off the hook.
And as usual on PMQs she praises the emergency services, NHS etc but never ever shares a thought for the 1000s of poor souls driven to death by their so-called austerity & sanctions etc… Evil to the last. Bloody disgusting
