Hundreds of homeless people fined and imprisoned in England and Wales because Tories like it
What kind of country has the UK become?
And what kind of person would think this is a step forward for our society?
Not one of the judges who passed sentence against a man for breaching one of the orders that councils may now impose.
He admitted “I will be sending a man to prison for asking for food when he was hungry”.
Who can be proud of that?
Only a Tory.
Growing numbers of vulnerable homeless people are being fined, given criminal convictions and even imprisoned for begging and rough sleeping, the Guardian can reveal.
Despite updated Home Office guidance at the start of the year, which instructs councils not to target people for being homeless and sleeping rough, the Guardian has found over 50 local authorities with public space protection orders (PSPOs) in place
Homeless people are banned from town centres, routinely fined hundreds of pounds and sent to prison if caught repeatedly asking for money in some cases. Local authorities in England and Wales have issued hundreds of fixed-penalty notices and pursued criminal convictions for “begging”, “persistent and aggressive begging” and “loitering” since they were given strengthened powers to combat antisocial behaviour in 2014 by then home secretary, Theresa May.

When you read so many stories like this and those of disrespect to the mentally ill or disabled, the Nazi term “useless eaters” always springs to mind.
Surely as a nation we can be better than that?
they need to add drunkards to this then. they can be much more antisocial than most homeless trying to survive
Doesn’t enforced sleep deprivation count as Torture? And isn’t torture against all human rights?
Isn’t Sleep deprivation considered as Toture? I thought torture was against Human rights?

Every day that goes by the Nasty Party gets nastier and nastier and nastier…
It all designed to make money the legal system will make money the private prison service will make money the company take them to prison will make money as Maggy said they would get us back to the 30’s that’s 1830’s, the new work house or as our US masters do make them work for peanuts and more money to be made.
I’ve just watched two armed police telling a very hungry looking woman to stop begging or they’ll arrest her. F*cking despicable. She wasn’t harming anyone.
