How’s the social distancing, self-isolation drive working? These pictures should provide a hint
It isn’t going very well, is it?
We can all blame the Tory government for creating a climate of fear – fear for our lives, fear that vital supplies will be cut, fear that society may break down.
Boris Johnson’s decisions have all be reactions to overwhelming necessities. For example, it seems he only ordered the closure of leisure facilities after Emmanuel Macron threatened to isolate the UK from France. This would have had serious repercussions for the UK economy.
The French have described Johnson’s policies as “benign neglect”, condemning them as reckless. It is believed that if they had carried out their threat, all EU nations would have followed suit, closing their borders with the UK as well.
Johnson’s intention in announcing a tighter clampdown on social contact was to bring the UK into line with the EU nations; in France, people need documentation to leave their homes.
Let’s see how well that’s working, shall we?

I think we can expect sanctions from other countries very soon. Blame Boris Johnson.
No wonder This Writer’s own response to that failure’s latest tweet has gained so much support:
We needed you to give good advice. Instead you wasted seven weeks and are STILL pushing eugenicist nonsense. Resign.

Have YOU donated to my crowdfunding appeal, raising funds to fight false libel claims by TV celebrities who should know better? These court cases cost a lot of money so every penny will help ensure that wealth doesn’t beat justice.

Looks like Cummings dream is being realised!
Johnson…………. i am staying at home but within the next few days i will have no food. i am 77 with diabetes. asthma and COPD, as well as spinal spondylosis. but my brain still works.unfortunately your online supermarkets dont… people offer to help get food for us.. but you cant expect them to go among crowds like that for us. my kids cant help me.they are in same position and have less storage than i have,. normally if one of them runs out of something they can go get it. if they dont have money for it,i will put money in their bank account to go get it. or even collect a few things from my fridge/freezer or pantry and get a taxi to take the items to them….you expect us all to stay indoors but wheres your advice about getting food and drink? we cant survive on water and fresh air( and even the latter is in short supply if we get total lock-down
So much of Right-wing populism is based on distrust of authority figures(or, at least, the more obvious ones).A refusal to accept the truth if expounded by experts. A suspicion that “they are all lying” compounded by the tendency of reactionary newspapers to tell us one thing one week and then the opposite soon after. Just look at the “fairy tale princess” treatment of Meghan Markle, followed , within weeks, by endless nasty sniping.
So we end up with Brexit(because the experts and many traditional establishment figures opposed it) and a Tory government led by a liar and a cheat.
But now it’s backfiring because a big chunk of the population just don’t believe the truth of the horror to come. Johnson is becoming just another establishment mouthpiece and millions just don’t know what to believe. But they do know that they have to look out for themselves as no-one else will. They don’t expect social solidarity, and the idea of the Welfare State caring for all has been debunked for decades.
So they grab what they can from the shops.
Or carry on with their lifestyles as before because the news always appears more sensational than the reality.
If we gain anything from this prospect of misery and grief, I hope it will be the realisation that we CAN meet everyone’s needs without “going bankrupt”, that the money is there if we want it, and that, when the chips are down, we can only rely on each other and a benevolent State, and that the “private sector” has neither the intention, the resources, nor the wish, to bail us out.
Certainly looks like promoting Greed,Fear and Mistrust through media campaigning has come back and bitten them on the bum.
Nobody now trusts the vague, obscuce platitudes that Bojob and his Government has to say – hope they’re proud !
I wish them all what they deserve…….
