Boris Johnson failed to pay £535 County Court-defined damages. Is he broke or not?
Confused? You should be.
Boris Johnson’s finances would befuddle even the most experienced double-entry jockey.
First we heard that being prime minister had made him so poor he couldn’t afford to feed himself and his many (known) children, and had appealed to Tory donors for help.
Then we discovered that this was against the rules, and suddenly Johnson announced that he had paid for everything after all.
But how can this be true, if he couldn’t even stump up £535 in accordance with a court order, back in October last year?
(By a curious coincidence, This Writer had to find exactly the same amount today – for repairs to my car. I managed it – and I earn a lot less than Boris Johnson, even though some – thanks, Mrs Mike – might say I’m worth a lot more.)
According to the BBC, the money is supposed to pay off libel damages – but I find that highly suspicious. Libel isn’t tried in the county court – cases only appear before High Court judges (I should know!) and they cost a lot more than £535!
Downing Street has said the court ruling is “without merit” (whatever that’s supposed to mean – if Johnson didn’t pay a court-ordered fine, then the facts seem fairly clear).
A spokesperson said,
“An application will be made for an order to set aside the default judgement, to strike out the claim and for a declaration that the claim is totally without merit.”
There was a time for that, and it was October last year. Now is too late.
It will be interesting to see what excuse is put forward for failing to challenge the judgement at the time.
I doubt any court will accept “The prime minister is above the law,” even if that is what Johnson genuinely believes.

I wonder who’s paying the legal bill?
The robot spokesperson who is always ‘wheeled out’ to utter commplace lies justifying little fascist dictator dick johnson’s crimes, claimed ‘the alleged amount owing is not in respect of refurbishment of dick johnson’s (pad) flat at Number 10.’ But how can this claim be made given dick johnson claims he doesn’t know anything about the said debt?’ More lies and counter claims from fascist dictator!
Good luck – no – little fascist dictator dick johnson you can’t demand the judgement be set aside merely because you are a fascist dictator!
Fascist dick had sufficient time to challenge the order but he didn’t so pay the £535 plus bailiff’s costs and other costs which are being incurred every day you dick don’t pay!
Your solution dick is to order a wealthy fascist tory donor to pay the £535 and then you can reward him with another crooked fake contract!
The system to set aside a judgment can be used in a timely fashion ,it needs to be in a fixed period after judgement, but only if you didn’t go to court on that date, I have used this on many occasions, but the time factor in this instance is well out of date.
So are we now allowing those in power to rewrite Law as they please, this is wholly wrong.
But we see many things that are government want to do as seen though what they wrote in the queen’s speech.
The last time I was in court the judge told off the solicitor who I had taken to court and gave me the power to take him to the legal system to have him told off , sorry for my language ,but it fits the system .
I doubt any court will accept “The prime minister is above the law,” even if that is what Johnson genuinely believes.
So is he broke? We know he was complaining about being so broke he could not afford food and his kids despite his massive salary and now this? Next, we were told donors paid for it. Oh no they didn’t they tell us. It’s getting a bit of panto, isn’t it?
If Bozo has this bad judgement in his normal life, WTF should we trust him with the country?
