With an election on the way, here’s how Rishi Sunak’s five pledges are shaping up
Remember Rishi Sunak’s five pledges, announced for the government on January 4, 2023?
They were that he would halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists and “stop the boats” – migrant crossings of the English Channel.
Peter Stefanovic has provided us all with a handy guide to progress on those pledges – and it is not good:
With Tory MP’s out in force telling us how well the Government is doing watch in disbelief as I take a look at progress or rather lack of it on @RishiSunak’s 5 pledges

So: inflation is down – but it’s nothing to do with the Tory government.
The economy is in recession – and has been for a considerable amount of time.
The Tory government has created the UK’s worst debt in 60 years.
NHS waiting lists have grown enormously – with new figures suggesting 14,000 people per year (that’s around 250 every week) are dying while they wait for treatment.
And more migrants are coming across the Channel than ever before.
Sunak wanted to be judged according to his progress on these issues and – with a general election due to take place in a matter of months – we are all going to have a chance to deliver the verdict.
