Labour government: is the honeymoon over with amendments a-go-go to the King’s Speech?
We already know of two changes being tabled next week at the end of the debate on Labour’s planned programme for government. They are:
- The SNP’s call for the two-child benefit cap to be scrapped, lifting 300,000 children out of poverty. This could be funded by scrapping a tax cut for bankers – that they said they didn’t want – that costs the Treasury £7.3 billion per year. £2 billion could go towards scrapping the cap, leaving £5.3 billion pocket money.
- Zarah Sultana’s demand for an end to the sale of weapons to Israel:
