Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis clashed with Lisa Nandy over winter fuel payments for pensioners, after it was revealed that four out of every five pensioners who are in relative poverty or just above the poverty line will lose the vital cash lifeline.
Age UK has released research showing that 2.46 million people – including 1.1 million disabled people – who will lose the payment live in relative poverty or just above the poverty line, and will struggle to heat their homes as a result of Labour’s cut.

We have previously heard that 880,000 pensioners who could receive Pension Credit – the threshold benefit for receiving the winter fuel payment since Labour’s cut – don’t, and the government is trying to contact them to encourage them to claim.
But it seems unlikely that even a fraction of them will be reached in time to make a difference this winter.
