In the teeth of heavy winds and biting rain, Storm Darragh silenced Vox Political. Power to this part of Mid Wales was cut at around 5.45am today (Saturday, December 7, 2024).
It was not restored for another 12 hours. VP was just one of 797,000 homes and businesses that lost power across Wales, the South West and the Midlands after the Met Office issued a red weather warning.
Engineering teams from the National Grid worked to restore power but faced what spokespeople called “challenging weather conditions” including winds whipped up to 94 mph, widespread damage and destruction with overhead power lines and equipment damaged by flying debris; falling trees and flooding blocking roads and restricting access to damaged equipment.

The rain was so harsh that BBC reporter Oli Constable said it felt like the side of his face was being “sandpapered”.
Railways, roads and airports were affected, with planes approaching Heathrow Airport, outside London, wobbling as their pilots attempted to straighten them before landing.
This Writer was unable to do any work at all; I had no power for my equipment and no internet access with which to publish any work I managed to do. All I could do was wait for power to be restored.
Power has, now, been restored. Normal service will resume immediately.
