Is Reeves so desperate she’ll support any crackpot economy-boosting scheme? That’s the way her words ring after December’s borrowing estimates came in so much higher than expected.
The Labour government has insisted from the start that it wants to concentrate on economic growth but the examples she has cited – new runways at Heathrow and Gatwick – suggest that ministers are being told to abandon any pro-environmental principles they have in a blind rush for cash.
“We will look at all plans to bring infrastructure, to bring investment to Britain,” she told the BBC, on her visit at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where investors that own the airports were present.
“When there are decisions around infrastructure investment, the answer can’t always be ‘no’, and with this government the answer is ‘yes’,” Reeves added.
That makes it seem as though this government will approve any investment that boosts business profits – no matter how damaging it may be for the environment, or for the UK’s citizens.
Where does Reeves draw the line? Or is she simply not bothering any more?
