The big question of the day is: how will the government save cash by doing what it is already doing?

I refer to the announcement that work coaches will be assigned to help long-term unemployed people, including people with long-term illnesses and disabilities, into jobs – exactly as they have been trying to do for the last 15 years at least.

It should occur to the more perceptive of you that people with long-term illnesses and disabilities are unlikely to be able to keep jobs in any case, due to the nature of their ill-health. Perhaps that obvious fact has yet to entire the minds of DWP Secretary Liz Kendall, Chancellor Rachel Reeves or prime minister Keir Starmer, which suggests that none of them are capable of doing their jobs properly.

Then again, it didn’t occur to the panellists on today’s BBC Politics Live either, so it was left to me to provide the relevant information here and in this video clip:
