Vox Political ends today.
To continue reading the best political commentary in the United Kingdom, you need to subscribe to The Whip Line.
And to make an actual difference? You need to become a paid subscriber.
As I have explained in messages in articles over the last few weeks, the online advertising model that kept the site free to read has deteriorated so sharply that it can no longer sustain the work.
This is not a reflection on the readership; it is a structural shift affecting small publishers everywhere.
Rather than quietly winding down, I gave you clear notice that Vox Political would close at the end of the year unless something dramatically changed.
It hasn’t. Income from advertising has fallen to its lowest-ever level, due to the policies of the advertising firms and social media algorithms that keep readers away when they should be encouraging people in.
The good news is that The Whip Line already exists, is reader-funded, and is growing.
That is where I can continue producing the journalism you value, free from the chaos of advertiser algorithms.
If you want this work to continue, please join me there.
Free and paid subscriptions are available, but please remember it is the paid subscriptions – monthly and annual – that directly fund the reporting.”
I know that some of you have been loyal to Vox Political for the whole of the 14 years – exactly – that the site has been online. Thank you – from the bottom of my heart.
Now let’s keep it going. In fact, let’s go big.
The Whip Line will only be financially viable if you support it – so this time it will be the readers who decide whether we survive, rather than greedy advertisers.
What happens next is up to you.
