Is this why the Tories refused to force landlords to make homes fit for human habitation?

Last Updated: January 14, 2016By

Laughing all the way to the bank: George Osborne and David Cameron.

More than a third of Tory MPs who voted down a law to improve rental accommodation are private landlords.

The Government this week blocked an amendment that would have forced landlords to ensure their properties were fit for human habitation .

New research shows that nearly 40% of Conservative MPs – 128 out of the 330 members – are landlords and 18 have a shareholding or investment in at least one property company.

Shadow Housing Minister Teresa Pearce said it was “an absolute disgrace” they had blocked her rule forcing all private sector landlords to make sure their properties are fit for people to live in.

She said that local councillors would have had to withdraw from voting if there was such a clear conflict of interest.

Bet they also have signs that say no DSS too! More so with the rent cap on benefit claimants,
Wouldn’t be surprised to find it being the main reason behind the house building boom!
Buy cheap rent high! Money for old rope.

And I may be a bit cynical here but who of those under a six figure income can say the employment prospects are good for 25 years!!

It is time to remove these greedy usurpers of peoples’ trusts and get a proper decent democracy before it is too late.
