Spot the wrongness: Cannabis kills cancer and is illegal; tobacco causes cancer and is legal

While officially, government policy is to highlight the cancer-causing effects of tobacco, the Treasury has been swelled considerably by the tax take from tobacco products, which are – of course – legal.
Cannabis, which counteracts cancer, is not.
Am I the only one who thinks this situation needs to be reversed?
The US government has thrown its weight behind the earth-shattering claims that cannabis kills cancer cells.
Everyone from hippies to conspiracy theorists and even several creditable scientists have previously argued that smoking or ingesting the herb can have medicinal benefits.
Cancer kills up to 20,000 people worldwide every day, according to global health estimates.
Health researchers for the US government claim that cannabinoids – the active ingredients in cannabis – can inhibit the illness by causing cell death and blocking key blood vessels needed by tumours to grow.
They say studies in mice and rats show cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells – while still protecting normal cells.

Since we sold the patent for Sativex to Bayer, it’s beyond the financial reach of many PCTs. Many people with MS, cancer, etc. (I have both) can’t get funding for something that was developed to help them and don’t give a sh**t about THC content and legalities, we just want a chance to live as close to a normal life as we can. Sorry for my language folks…
Hi Mags, I can totally emphathise & agree with you as I have both MS & cancer too.
We just want ‘normal’ lives.
Unfortunately there are many natural substances that can help medical conditions and ailments that money grabbing major Pharmas keep from the public even to the point of getting Governments to ban natural substances as untested and dangerous. Natural cures have nothing like the death record and adverse reactions of so called safe Pharmaceuticals. Cannabis has a place in the armoury of potential cures and reliefs if used sensibly etc.
I am afraid given the sheer number of youth and young men where I live who used the very strong cottage industry locally produced cannabis from an early age and have ended with severe mental health problems and are now unemployable, I am going to be very much at odds with you about this issue Mike.
(That is a separate issue to cannabis derived drugs for medicinal use.)
I don’t think so. The fact is, there is now a very strong reason to legalise cannabis. Legal versions of this herb could be regulated to ensure they do what is expected of them and don’t cause mental illness.
Its been my belief that legalisation of cannabis was long overdue. Its a gateway drug and led many weak- willed users to harder drugs when it was not accessible to users.
The poditive effect of ‘ killing cancer cells ‘ is surely further supportive evidence to the legalisation debate.
I don’t agree with the ‘gateway drug’ argument. People go on to other drugs because they want other drugs, not because they’ve had cannabis.
Big Pharma is fighting tooth and nail too keep the natural cures out of the public’s reach. They are losing but will continue to try to halt people having access to these substances through trade agreements like TTIP and using GMO’s.
They will lose because people are going to be so angry when they realise loved ones have been dying needlessly. There is an avalanche of brilliant films coming out on vitamins, essential oils and basic simple healing techniques we can all access through the internet. And they work!
