Treasury prediction on UK’s economic future outside the EU is rubbished – because George Osborne fronted it
This is one occasion in which the ‘Leave’ campaigners are absolutely right.
This Writer agrees with Parliamentary legend Denis Skinner, who tweeted the following:
“Osborne is now making 15 year predictions for the economy – despite his record of altering targets in every budget.”
Yup.
This report is being presented as a major Treasury analysis – but the Treasury’s forecasting ability is widely derided and Osborne’s reputation is in tatters due to every single Budget statement he has ever made.
It is a major PR victory for the ‘Leave’ campaign – and one for which they didn’t have to lift a finger.
The UK would be “permanently poorer” outside the European Union, Chancellor George Osborne has warned ahead of the in-out vote on membership on 23 June.
A Treasury analysis suggests an EU exit could see the UK economy 6% smaller than it would otherwise be by 2030.
Mr Osborne said the smaller size of the economy projected in the report was the equivalent of £4,300 per household.
Leave campaigners called the claims “absurd” and “worthless” given the Treasury’s past forecasting record.

Employment minister Priti Patel says that “the public must not be given the view that when we leave it is all too difficult, all too complex. It is not.” On the other hand, she is apparently confounded by the disabled. Her department, the DWP, and HM Treasury are refusing to assess the impact of cuts on disabled people, despite being urged to do so by the equality watchdog. The government claims that it is just too difficult to do a cumulative impact assessment, that the changes are too complicated.
And it has already been proved that a cumulative impact assessment can be done, very easily.
Perhaps some one finally sowed a poison pill with this load of complete toot with a view to finally nailing any future hopes he may have had for political leadership as no one with a sane mind would have hoped to have got away with having this scare tactic being accepted by an intelligent public…….not with his record of lies and incompetence.
I predict that in 15 years we will discover that earth is not that round after all!
At least i can back my say by saying that no one is allowed to go bellow the 60th paralel, even the flights have to fly north when they need to fly between two airports situated in the south of the planet.
Er…
