According to Mr Saviano, this corruption is in the financial system that allows the rich, including criminals, to bank their money offshore.
He said the UK allows it now, and leaving the EU would leave the country even more at risk of being used by organised crime.

Britain has been described as the most corrupt country in the world, according to a journalist and expert on the Italian Mafia.
Roberto Saviano, who wrote best-selling exposés Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, made the claim at the Hay Literary Festival.
Mr Saviano told the audience at Hay-on-Wye: “If I asked you what is the most corrupt place on Earth you might tell me well it’s Afghanistan, maybe Greece, Nigeria, the South of Italy and I will tell you it’s the UK.
“It’s not the bureaucracy, it’s not the police, it’s not the politics but what is corrupt is the financial capital. 90 per cent of the owners of capital in London have their headquarters offshore.
“Jersey and the Caymans are the access gates to criminal capital in Europe and the UK is the country that allows it.
“That is why it is important why it is so crucial for me to be here today and to talk to you because I want to tell you, this is about you, this is about your life, this is about your government.”
Mr Saviano also weighed in on the EU referendum debate, warning a vote to leave the union would see Britain even more exposed to organised crime.

Well it’s really good that we are the No. 1 in something…even if it’s corruption. Not a surprise when one looks at how the banking and finance centres were taken out by their own rampant greed. As was thought at the time diddly squat would actually ever done about preventing it happening again, the perpatrators got, and continue to be rewarded by outrageous bonus payments, only a few fall guys got prison sentences. Meanwhile this Government prefers sticking its pig head up it’s backside
in blind ignorance whilst the Chancellor admits to corruption by including prostitution and drugs in his economic indicators. All indicators this country is led by the so called Elite not by politicians or any form of democracy. If you want more of the same, but getting progressively worse, then keep voting for the Cons. Camoron leading the anti corruption efforts in europe…..what a total play acting farce….slowing it down more like.
Tell me something I don’t know. Been that way for decades. The establishment got away with it so far because it’s less ‘in you face’ than governments in a banana republic (which is we really are beneath the veneer of proprietary).
