This is how the House of Lords could delay Brexit
This would make it impossible for the House of Lords to block any Parliamentary Bill, rendering Baroness Wheatcroft’s threat meaningless.
But there would be widespread outcry from many areas of the community – and from expats (UK citizens living abroad), as we have seen in a recent article.
The whole process has become far more complicated than anybody expected.
That’s probably why the person who inflicted it on us all – David Cameron – has scarpered to the back benches.
It was his idea; he should be made to pay the bill when it finally comes in.
Baroness Patience Wheatcroft [has warned] that the House of Lords would use its powers to delay a Brexit taking place if the matter was put before parliament.
The Tory peer that the unelected house would delay the activation of Article 50 if given the opportunity.
“If it comes to a bill,” Baroness Wheatcroft said, “I think the Lords might actually delay things. I think there’s a majority in the Lords for remaining.”
Article 50 is the piece of EU legislation British government must trigger in order to begin the 2-year process of formally withdrawing from the 28-nation bloc. “It is imperative that we don’t press the button on Article 50,” she added.
Baroness Wheatcroft’s warning will provide yet another headache for Theresa May who is beginning to realise just how difficult delivering a Brexit is going to be.

The idea of the Commons frustrating the clearly stated will of the people is bad enough. But were the unelected Lords to do so, it woule cause outrage. Although I was a staunch supporter of Remain, I think any attempt to circumvent the referendum result is very dangerous and will play into the hands of UKIP and the far right. So while Corbyn was wrong to call for Article 50 to be invoked immediately, we must proceed at a sensible pace and get the best possible deal for the UK outside the EU.
Corbyn didn’t call for Article 50 to be invoked immediately and you are misleading the public by suggesting it.
Article to follow.
So an unelected member of an unelected house is quite happy to trample democracy because it wasn’t the result they wanted!
Speaks much for the ‘land of democracy’ does it not!
“We refuse the people’s decision because it’s not the result we wanted” – Yep, great vision of Democracy!
Will it even happen at all!
So why can’t the house of lords be abolished? after all is it not the will of the people:brexit, that the uk were not ruled over by the ‘Unelected’ eu bureaucrats and here we are being ruled over by the house of lords, an unelected bunch of ‘Bureaucrats’. Can’t have it both ways!
