Corbyn demands action over ‘national security’ incident involving Israeli embassy staffer

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has re-stated his demand for the Conservative government to investigate “improper interference in this country’s democratic process” by a staff member at the Israeli embassy, after Shai Masot was exposed by the news channel Al-Jazeera.

He re-tweeted a copy of his letter of January 13, after This Site demanded an investigation into the motivations of all those who have published spurious claims of anti-Semitism against political figures – especially those in the Labour Party – over the last year.

He wrote: “Members of Parliament must have the freedom to hold and express a view, without fear that they could be subject to attempts to discredit them by diplomatic or other representatives of another state.

I am concerned that the Foreign Secretary has stated that he considers the matter closed. [Boldings mine]

“This is clearly a national security issue. I would therefore ask that you treat the matter as such and launch an inquiry into the extent of this improper interference. It is only on that basis that Parliament and the public will be reassured that such activities will not be tolerated by your government.”

He is exactly right – never mind the fact that he was one of those targeted with false accusations that he was an anti-Semite, and with attempts to discredit the Chakrabarti report into racism and anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. The need for an inquiry is indisputable.

Why is Theresa May not demanding one? What is she hiding?

It serves the purposes of the right wing both Conservative and Labour, many of whom are “probably” in the pocket or in fear of Israeli agents smearing capabilities, to sweep this under the carpet. The fact that a foreign state can not only interfere but unduly influence a political party by foul means and be allowed to get away with it, is utterly disgraceful.

What have you got to hide?

Government says: “If you don’t have anything to hide why are you worried about surveillance etc., yet, these same people, that hide in private, meet in secret, under armed guard, won’t disclose what they are doing.
