Jonathan Pie makes a good point: Is the LEFT now the politics of intolerance? [STRONG LANGUAGE]
This Site is as guilty of it as anywhere else: Censorship of profane language to prevent it causing offence.
I do it because I want Vox Political articles and the comments they invite to be seen by as many people as possible, and I don’t want them to be put off by a deluge of dirty words. After watching this week’s Jonathan Pie clip, I still think I’m right to do so.
But that applies to a forum for political debate. I’m not trying to alter To Kill a Mockingbird, for example, or to tear down a statue because it portrays some imperialistic git. Just create a statue to someone progressive and put it up next to them – to demonstrate how far we’ve come.
The thought that people are becoming Conservatives – in order to voice protest against censorship – offends my sense of fair play.
It should offend yours too.
This is a clever warning to some people on the Left, to get their act together and concentrate on fighting enemies that matter:

Labour is the Party of Intolerance, dont want working class, dont mention your stolen pensions, dont meantion Labour brought in wca, dont mention Labour said they wanted more disabled to die, dont mention that we really dont practice what we preach and what is on our Labour Values and Beliefs and most Labour town councils and clps are as corrupt as anything
Saw Jonathan Pie in Brighton, he also said that Labour had made itself IRRELEVANT.
and yes it has, again, like the 80s. so much party in fighting, party fighting electorate and social values. Dont need Corbyn who is trying his best or John, Labour has wiped itself out again.
NICE ONE! just when country and people need some champions
Labour certainly DOES want the working class; I don’t know what you mean about stolen pensions – was this something under New Labour, which wasn’t Labour at all? Labour defends the disabled, although New Labour didn’t; we really do practise what we preach.
Your issue seems to be with a party that is dead. Perhaps you should try to acquaint yourself with the Labour Party instead.
This is a clever warning to some people on the Left, to get their act together and concentrate on fighting enemies that matter:
hmm its not the left but the right who are causing the pain in the labour party they dont want the gravy train to end
So shouldn’t the Left concentrate its energies on what matters?
The problem is that it isn’t particularly “dirty words” but everyday ones that might possibly could may perhaps upset someone.
I have been saying this for YEARS!
I choose to keep my timeline clean, I’ve got a lot of contacts who’d be offended by foul language and I don’t want them to click ‘unfollow’ – I want them to read my posts. I recently had to block someone who is not a ‘friend’ but was commenting on a post, I pointed out that it is poor manners to jump in on someone else’s timeline with foul language and asked him to edit – he didn’t. Yes, that is censorship, but I’d have been happy to argue the content of his post if he’d edited out the language.
Exactly. You’ve just reminded me that I didn’t put the usual [STRONG LANGUAGE] warning on this post, so I’ve just edited it in.
Just a quick reminder: While there is strong language included in the post (accompanied by a warning), This Site does not permit commenters to publish strong swear words, profanities, or whatever-you-want-to-call-them here.
I just read a comment from Aunty1960, filled with language that was absolutely vile.
No, thank you.
