A Chancellor who can’t get his sums right! But will Philip Hammond keep his job?
Philip Hammond shot himself in the foot on the BBC’s Today show – so badly that he may be removed as Chancellor (or shadow chancellor) in any future Theresa May Conservative Party.
After lambasting the Labour manifesto launch, claiming the figures “don’t add up”, Mr Hammond got the cost of HS2 badly wrong – in fact, the project will cost nearly double the £32 billion he was claiming.
Phillip Hammond just said HS2 will cost £32bn. Truth is it will cost £55.7bn. How can the BBC let him away with that?https://t.co/HpLhxRRPqu pic.twitter.com/dWiz8doYNP

Labour leaders and supporters leapt in to point out other inconsistencies in Tory mathematics (and there are many).
Hammond has a cheek to question Labour's figures when he is £20bn out in HS2 costing. And let's not forget the £2bn black hole in his Budget

Tories are claiming fiscal responsibility – but they have repeatedly broken their promise to eliminate deficit (£58 billion)

In 2016 this Tory Govt borrowed £70bn! What happened 2 clearing deficit by 2015? Tory Govt's debt now £1700bn 87% GDP cf 67% in 2010! #today

Now, Theresa May is refusing to say whether Mr Hammond will remain as Chancellor in a post-election Conservative government.
But here’s the big question:
Why does our UK media never ask this question? pic.twitter.com/IEweP0EBII

Yes.
RECORD borrowing.
Public service CUTS.
What have the Conservatives done with all OUR money?

Christ we have to get these mean selfish uncaring barstewards out! tonight Cruella May announces means testing winter fuel allowance, officially ending the triple lock. Pensioners having to use their hard worked for assets to pay for social care. There goes the little inheritance for the kids and grandchildren. Removing free school dinners for infants in exchange for breakfast clubs. A chancellor who has no idea of costings.
A sodding massive debt more than twice of that caused by the banking crisis, NHS on it’s way out ffs This is a living nightmare
Means testing? I heard she was ending the winter fuel allowance altogether and I reckon that’s what she’ll do.
As I keep saying she doesn’t want to win! If she does she would suggest a great manifesto and then lie afterwards, after all that is her forte!
She just wants Jeremy Corbyn to deal with the Brexit headache, because has no skills to do it herself, nor has she got any friends in Europe whereas Jeremy has plenty.
Why do you think she has come up with the worst manifesto Ever?!!
Must admit the more awful policies she announces the more it’s got me wondering, Brexit to bigger a headache easier to try and get back in once the hard work is done
Not just the fuel allowance then Mike :( On with the fight!!

This is what they have done with our money – enriched the 5%!
HS2? Ah yes: that was the plan to bring London’s rail chaos to Brum 30 mins sooner without giving any benefit to SMBs in either East or West (gov funded research). As Donald is believed to have said, ‘devlish clever, these Chinese’!
Hammond isn’t exactly the brightest of sparks. Like most Tories it was money that got him where he is, not ability.
It is odd that some of these people keep their Jobs, for example how on earth can Hunt be considered as being of any use whatsoever in his Health Minister role, as for HS2 we all know about the government and contracting out , it starts at £20 million and comes in at 45 £billion while companies they have shares in profit.
I say that any innumerate minister of state should be sacked. And Dianne Abbott should be got rid of from the Shadow Cabinet ASAP and replaced with a Shadow Home Secretary who knows how many beans make five.
