Tories are trying to outdo each other with ever-sillier comments about Russia

Last Updated: March 24, 2018By

Tom London’s question is valid:

First, Gavin Williamson – speaking as Defence Secretary – said Russia should “shut up and go away”. That was childish.

Then Boris Johnson predicted Vladimir Putin will revel in the World Cup in Russia this summer in the same way that Adolf Hitler did in the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. That was an enormous insult against the people who suffered most in the war against the Nazis.

Now:

A Tory minister has said the best way to deal with Russia is for England to win the World Cup.

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, [Minister for Sport, Matt] Hancock said: “Frankly the best response to all of this would be for England to go to the World Cup in Russia and win it.”

Delusional.

Don’t get me wrong – it would be fantastic if England’s footballers could overcome their individual differences, play as a cohesive team and defeat all the others – but it would not be a slap in the face for Russia if they did.

Russia is not yet, and may never be, one of the great footballing countries.

A win for England on Russian soil would mean nothing if it was against a completely different country.

how about all of them there all about as stupid as each other, it is really bad to think that there actually getting paid, they should be on minimum wage, in a safe job if you can find one, a room with four padded cells springs to mind, even then that may not be safe they still find a way to harm themselves

Thje comments in question are all utterly daft – I voted for Boris Johnson’s as the daftest because while they are fairly hard to split I reckoned that if one were to break the tie by looking at each indvidual’s second daftest comment Mr Johnson would be a clear winner!

Johnson is the most dangerous of the three, but all are as ridiculous as each other.
