As thousands of employees and students prepare to play their part, will you join the workplace day of action to stop arming Israel?
You may end up taking part in one of the largest such events since Israel began its genocide in Gaza, joining in solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon on Thursday (November 28) to demand an immediate ceasefire and end to Britain arming Israel.
Workers are organising actions ranging from lunchtime rallies, walk outs and silences, to stalls, bake sales or simply wearing badges and Palestinian scarves.

The action has been called by the groups organising the national demonstrations and protests for Palestine and has the backing of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and national and regional unions. The TUC’s support comes as a result of a number of motions in support of Palestine that were backed unanimously by delegates at this year’s Congress.
The day is an opportunity to escalate the resistance to the genocide, and to bring trade unionists and other workers who haven’t previously been on our national demonstrations into the anti-war movement.
Chris Nineham, StWC vice chair said: “This Thursday workers up and down the country will again be taking action in their workplaces to protest at our government’s continued support for Israel as it expands its assaults in the Middle East and intensifies the genocide in Gaza and assaults on Palestinians in the West Bank.
“We must break the silence on Palestine in workplaces and the TUC’s support shows that the trade union movement nationally is swinging behind workplace action in order to force the government to stop colluding in genocide.
“Many people are saying they are organising something at work for the first time and staff at some non-unionised workplaces have contacted us saying they are trying get involved by doing collections for the Disasters Emergency Committee which is running a Middle East humanitarian appeal, and by doing things such as bake sales or ordering Palestinian food at lunchtime and having discussions about the terrible situation.”
Events include rallies at universities and hospitals and in city centres in Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Leicester, London, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, York, Oxford, Preston and Stafford. The list of actions is still growing and can be seen here.
The day of action is being supported by the TUC and affiliated unions. It is also supported by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al Aqsa, the Muslim Association of Britain and the Palestinian Forum in Britain.

This Writer certainly hopes to see protesters in media reports on that day – even if the reports themselves aren’t about the protest. I want to see badges! I want to see scarves and banners.
