What do we think of Rushanara Ali?
This Writer has a certain degree of respect for her – but there are other deputy leadership contenders who may also be impressive in the role, so the jury is out.
Your thoughts are requested.
Labour MP Rushanara Ali tells the BBC she is entering the deputy leadership race, and will “start by going after UKIP voters who left Labour”.

Yes I would vote for her….a fresh face with fresh ideas
I would prefer someone with a lot more weight and parliamentary experience. It will be needed to be ready to pounce when the Tories start dropping clangers. But if she’s not “moderniser” then I suppose……..OK?
I can’t see anyone who wants to attract anything remotely UKIPish being ideal Labour leadership material, even if just the deputy. I don’t know anything about Ali, who may be a perfectly reasonable candidate, but people moved to UKIP for a reason and that would not be a principle backed by traditional Labour anyway.
We’re discussing people who were attracted to UKIP in the mistaken belief that it is a party of the people (when we know it is actually a right-wing party of bankers and financiers).
