Grieving mum shocked by DWP demand for son – one day after his funeral

Last Updated: September 22, 2015By

This is nearly a month old but worth recording, because of the DWP’s treatment of the grieving relative.

A MOTHER was called the day after her son’s funeral to ask why he hadn’t attended a meeting about his Jobseekers’ Allowance.

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has apologised to Jacqueline Brown, who says she was appalled to receive the phone call on Tuesday, despite filling out all the necessary forms to tell them what had happened.

Jacqueline’s son, 31-year-old James, was first taken to hospital with meningitis several weeks earlier.

“I think it’s disgraceful what they have done,” she said.

They really are worse than the Gestapo, especially with RTU as commander in chief.

While I appreciate the bad timing of this call and I commiserate with the family, we must remember the size of the unfeeling beast that is the Department for Workshy and Painfree. If you phone Newcastle from Devizes, it does not mean that the local JCP get informed. Modern technology may make us think communication is instant, but do they have to contact the Public Record Office for a copy of the death certificate to prove the one the family submit is not fake?

      Department of Workshy and Painfree?
The rest of your comment seems at odds with this description of that organisation. Claims that the people serviced by the DWP are “workshy” or “painfree” are – in the case of 99.3 per cent of claimants – wrong.
      Please find another euphemism.

Heartless f**kers, they did it deliberately, just to twist the knife and increase her pain of the loss of her son, this won’t be the first time this has happened, there will be other tragic stories like this, why wasn’t this reported in the news, it’s worthy of it, unlike Sham-eron and his posh, pig shagging chums!
