Top Tories slammed over “extraordinary catalogue of failures” that led to collapse of Kids Company

The important name here is that of Oliver Letwin. He is a man whose judgement has been pitifully poor for decades, yet he retains a high position among Tory Party policy-makers.

He has been around so long that advice he provided to previous Tory leaders has become public thanks to the 30-year rule on publishing previously-private government documents.

Just take a look at the shocking advice he provided to Margaret Thatcher over the Brixton riots of the 1980s, and consider his response to Kids Company in that context.

Like Jeremy Hunt, he should be sacked and replaced with someone competent.

But the Conservative Party doesn’t do ‘competent’, does it?

Judge these people by their actions – and the Conservative Government by the length of time these people keep their jobs.

Tory top brass were among those behind an “extraordinary catalogue of failures” that led to the collapse of the Kids Company charity, MPs say today.

Cabinet minister Oliver Letwin is blasted for giving the organisation a £3million emergency government grant after senior officials advised him not to.

The report says taxpayers’ money was handed over without proper checks because politicians including David Cameron were “captivated” by Kids Company founder Camila Batmanghelidjh.

The probe reveals the spending and controversial leadership that led to the closure of the children’s charity last August – a week after the £3million bailout.

It is claimed money was lavished on clients having holidays in Ibiza.

Letwin is the loathsome character who was caught throwing confidential correspondence from his constituents into a public park litter bin, which amply demonstrates the level of contempt in which he holds them. He was also involved a strange and dubious incident when, in the early hours of one morning, he allowed two totally strange men, who it is alleged were passers-by, into his house, ostensibly to use the toilet (that was Letwin’s version of the story, but there is also another, more credible and very sordid version). These two strangers apparently stole his wallet/credit cards etc and he ended up chasing them down the street in his pyjamas.

The man is just another useless and nasty Tory who has attained his position by family money and influence.
