Universal Credit: Tories reduced to shouting at Jeremy Corbyn – because they have no answers for him

Listen to the crescendo of background shouting in the following clip, from yesterday’s Prime Minister’s Questions:

Jeremy Corbyn was pointing out the failure of Universal Credit and its horrifying consequences for those who are being pushed onto the failed benefit, which was intended to be a fairer replacement for the former system but has proved to be a poverty trap for the poor.

Prime minister Theresa May had no answer for him and her backbenchers knew it, so they were reduced to trying to shout him down.

It was a miserable display of the worst aspect of the UK’s Parliamentary behaviour – and Labour’s MPs and supporters were quick to point it out.

Her answer was a disgrace. While David Morris shouted accusations of racism at Jeremy Corbyn, she quoted Chuka Umunna’s false claims that Labour is institutionally racist and even referred to the ‘no confidence’ votes against Labour MPs.

None of the racism claims are true and Labour’s internal affairs are its own business.

She had nothing whatsoever to say about the failure of her party’s flagship benefit – because she probably doesn’t think it is a failure.

Tories don’t care about people claiming benefits. They just want to clear them off the books, save the money and give their supporters a big tax rebate. We’ve seen it before.

They do have a damn answer for him . A four point lead in one of the polls. Thats with the Tories in disarray and the worst government ever.

A lead? In one of the polls? Courtesy of the most strongly right-wing news media in UK history over the last 50 years?
      You do surprise me.
Which pollster? The most strongly Conservative-supporting one?

If certain traitors in the Parliamentary Labour Party shut up and either got behind the leader or went away, Labour would have a lead of at least 20 points.

You know it, and so does everybody else.

One thing Tories are very good at is throwing nasty insults. The other is divide and rule. They thrive on both nasty practices.

Universal Credit, which to the credit of the Tories (very reluctantly) started out as being one of the few good ideas the Tories have ever had, especially when compared to the old system’s failings, has been completely turned on it’s head.

It’s now far, far worse than the old system, thanks to a lethal combination of the Tories idealogical hatred of anyone and anything that depends in any way on state funding, never mind those who actually needs welfare to make ends meet, and Tory incompetence.

It’s time the true source of this Country’s misery, not all the red herrings they’ve got the press throwing around, was finally dealt with and gotten rid of.
