What kind of government lets a private firm run its PPE stockpile – and sell it?

The UK’s Tory government.
The UK’s stockpile of personal protective equipment (PPE) for use in a pandemic… has been outsourced to a private company, Movianto, which was sold two weeks ago for $133m (£107m) by its owner, a large US healthcare group.
Lunacy.
No wonder NHS staffers were reduced to wearing bin bags and re-using single-use items.
We need an independent inquiry into the government’s decisions before and during the pandemic – and how private enterprise contributed to the calamity.

This has the familiar ring of covert Tory outsourcing and their usual lack of tight audit and management by staff that actually know what they are doing. Doubtless they were charged large management fees for this so called service which did not last very long because they were not making enough to make it worth the effort. Interesting that it went to a US Company that jacked it in was this the start of the Government sell off in bite sized chunks. Hopefully the Boris spell in hospital may have got some focus on not flogging off the service that saved him from the grim reaper.
