Covid-19 death toll could be MUCH higher: many ‘recovered’ patients return to hospital and die
It is as I – and many others – predicted:
Almost a third of recovered Covid patients will end up back in hospital within five months and one in eight will die, alarming new figures have shown.
Research by Leicester University and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found there is a devastating long-term toll on survivors of severe coronavirus, with many people developing heart problems, diabetes and chronic liver and kidney conditions.
Out of 47,780 people who were discharged from hospital in the first wave, 29.4 per cent were readmitted to hospital within 140 days, and 12.3 per cent of the total died.
The current cut-off point for recording Covid deaths is 28 days after a positive test, so it may mean thousands more people should be included in the coronavirus death statistics.
So many – many – more deaths should be attributed to Covid-19 than the Tories are currently recording.
And they are a result of the so-called “long Covid” – the long-term effects of the disease on its victims.
Michael Rosen has made it clear that he is a sufferer and has endured considerable abuse from deniers. This research indicates that he is correct, so perhaps the ignorants should leave him alone now.
The article states that people who are released from hospital after apparently recovering from Covid-19 should be given protective therapies, and suggests statins and aspirin.
Has the NHS taken any of this on board? Or are doctors meant to prepare for another 10,000 re-admissions per day later in the year, on top of however many newly-infected people are coming in by then?
