Tory opinion poll asks ‘degrading’ question about disability – and it will help form national policy
As a man in a relationship with someone who has a disability, I can confirm that this is disgustingly inappropriate.
What do you think of this tweet by the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire?
Why is this question being asked in the government’s survey which will help formulate their National Strategy for Disabled People?
Respondents have told me it’s ‘degrading’, ‘intrusive, inappropriate and insensitive’.

Four those who can’t read images well, the question is: “Do you agree or disagree that you would be happy to have a physical relationship with a disabled person?”
The implication is that people with disabilities are sub-human and should not enjoy the same relationships as the rest of us – and that shows despicable prejudice by the Tory government.
As I say, my own partner has a disability so I know this subject very well.
Have YOU donated to my crowdfunding appeal, raising funds to fight false libel claims by TV celebrities who should know better? These court cases cost a lot of money so every penny will help ensure that wealth doesn’t beat justice.

WTF? Many people are not born with a disability and their disability may only become apparent in later years so are we talking people over the age of 18, 25, 30, 45? Or perhaps the question is really would you have a physical relationship with someones whose disability is obvious? Why not be specific and really embarrass the disabled?
Of course Mike might also ask if the Tories would question of whether Fat or Skinny or Coloured or Moslem or Jewish, deaf, blind……..persons will be the next on the shit list of what Tories deem reasonable questions. Which insensitive twit would think these cruel and degrading questions up? How in the world does it impact on policy?
Everyone is different and so are their responses to other people. Would the Tories like to query whether they think Downes Syndrome people or persons suffering from dwarfism or giantism qualify? Are those who have high level functionality but diagnosed with Aspergers, Tourettes, Bi-polar, epilepsy, crones, Endometriosis or people who might lose a limb through an accident and a host of other medical problems also to be discounted as disabled?
Where does it end?
What kind of people go out of their way to humiliate those in society who are not perfect?
It’s so unnecessarily cruel and degrading. Hopefully, enough people would answer this question on the survey with “Mind your own fucking business!”
Sorry about the language but I got really brassed off.
This is how sick the Tory scum really is just trying to hide its disablist attitude. Yes, the question is offensive and the reasoning behind the asking of the question shows the contempt disabled people are held by this Tory government!
The whole were lesser people because were disabled BS and costing them money. Well sorry, I didn’t ask for a Tory to cripple me for life in 2002 and not get any charges against him because I was only a cyclist. Of course no mention he was illegally driving after a heart attack…
See this dismissive attitude has been always part of the right-wing mental makeup it’s always us and THEM attitude. Some days I am just disgusted by the people in charge of this damn country.
