More than 100,000 new #Covid19 infections but #BorisJohnson dithers. Why?
So it has finally happened.
Yesterday (December 22), the UK reported 106,122 new cases of Covid-19.
We had been warned to expect this, months ago. It took a while but the prediction has come true.
Why did it come true? Partly because of the rise of the Omicron variant, partly because Boris Johnson failed to close our borders the instant its existence was suggested, partly because he had already loosened other restrictions that hindered the spread of the disease.
Mostly because Boris Johnson really couldn’t care less.
You can tell that last point is true because he has delayed announcing any new restrictions that could limit Covid’s advance.
Yes, it would look awkward for Johnson to announce new regulations just after he had been shown breaking his own rules previously, but the first duty of any government is to protect the people – not to protect its own image. By delaying, Johnson is causing even more harm.
Even more damning is the possibility – I would call it a likelihood – that Johnson is delaying any announcement so he can use it to push any further damaging revelations about his own selfishness, incompetence and corruption off the news agenda.
How many people will suffer for the sake of Johnson’s ambitions?
We shall see.

according to many doctors the omicron is a help not a hindrance! People who get this type of covid get better antibodies and it is very similar to the common cold! but the vaccine is being pushed but should only be used on the sick or immune deficient, antiviral drugs are available but completely ignored! https://youtu.be/ZENaBNKGhLI
Oh, no. He does care. About the rabid right rabble of “MPs” and, of course, his paymasters. Just not us, any of us.
The figures are actually likely to be higher. According to the Scottish Government website “Public Health Scotland (PHS) are aware that today’s reported positive case numbers are lower than expected. PHS are investigating this, and will provide updates in future reports.”
However, looking at the pattern pre-Omicron is quite interesting. Boris declared ‘Freedom Day’ and rid England of any form of restriction or safety measure. Meanwhile Scotland remained with masks and some other restrictions and added the Vaccine Passport when Boris got cold feet on it. The result was that more have vaccinated and fewer have been infected (as a percentage) than in England. It shows that the mask wearing and vaccine passport WAS effective against Delta. With more already having had first and second jags they will be able to give more the Booster shot now too.
Boris has moved at glacial speed once again and I’m preparing for him to cancel Christmas once more. He probably won’t do this but he should. His reason will be for his back bench COVID deniers. But what’s worse is that he is actively preventing devolved administrations from taking the actions they deem necessary. This has lead to the state where you can’t go to work in the office but you CAN go to the pub! Meanwhile Boris has yet to go further than the devolved administrations had for Delta!
Boris is possibly the worst man at the worst time. He takes much credit for the vaccine rollout but actually checking the percentage of the entire population vaccinated shows a different story, we are actually lagging behind the US! They show us a higher percentage because we are choosing to vaccinate fewer of our people ie making certain age groups ineligible, so that the percentage is only of those eligible. We lag behind on that and are worse of for infections too. We rightly criticised Trump’s actions on COVID and we are, rightly, critical of the extent to which the antivaxxers have a grip on the US. But despite all of that we’ve actually vaccinated a lower percentage of our population..
