Rishi Sunak wanted to Americanise the UK’s social care system
Here’s a good investigation from iNews: Rishi Sunak tried to get US-based social care companies to bring their businesses to the UK.
He tried to get social care firms Honor and Unite Us, healthcare data firm Komodo Health, health insurance firm Devoted Health, and cancer detection company Grail (whose parent Illumina is advised by former PM David Cameron) to profit from UK citizens’ care needs.
They all turned him down:
According to partially redacted Treasury minutes of the meeting… “US healthcare firms want to focus on their domestic market before contemplating expansion, because i) it’s so vast: population and spend per capita much higher than e.g. in the UK; ii) it’s complicated and idiosyncratic; it’s not a portable approach.
“UK healthcare has historically not been especially innovative, but some participants reported positive engagements where they’ve worked with the NHS recently.”
This is particularly telling:
A Government spokesperson said: “We have a strong track record of promoting overseas investment to the UK to boost our economy and level up the country.”
Is that because it’s easier than investing in doing it ourselves?
Trouble is, the profits go out of the country too – leaving the UK even more impoverished due to Tory policies.
We should be glad that Sunak failed.

The Tories (and many Brits) are obsessed with America. But USA is really NOT a good role model. Mrs Thatcher’s Special Advisor Sir Alan Walters completed his education in USA (Harvard Business School, I believe) where he was inculcated with the new American theory of Neo-Liberalism. He returned to UK and the Tories immediately took on Neo-Liberalism. Reagan endlessly praised them for being “New Europe”. Other EU countries were labelled “Old Europe” because they did not follow American Neo-Liberalism. Thatcher and other Tories went Full Speed Ahead with neo-liberalism and rapidly sold off just about everything in UK, usually for a tiny fraction of its value, and Reagan abd other Americans kept up the praise. The Tories never noticed that USA did only a very small amount of selling off (usually redundant or moribund industry, and only a small bit of de-regulation. It is now obvious to everyone that American Neo-Liberalism was a con, which only UK fell for, and yet UK continues with it despite it so obviously being a tragic disaster for UK, one which (as normal) the Tories will NEVER apologise for. In fact they just blunder on destroying more and more of UK, including OUR NHS.
In a similar way it is clear that Brexit is yet another Tory disaster but however bad its results the Tories will NEVER admit it was wrong, and will never admit it was an act of Treason.
