Labour and Tories in Scotland want tactical voting – to force out the SNP | Maximilien Robespierre
This should be political sacrilege to both Labour and the Tories.
South of the border, they are bitter enemies.
But in Scotland, they both consider the Scottish National Party to be the greater enemy – so party leaders have been calling on their followers to vote tactically in order to get rid of the SNP:

This campaign has been ongoing for years, albeit without direct involvement of party leaders, under the guise of a Facebook group called ‘Smash The SNP’ It helpfully gives names, polling figures and previous results and tells you who to vote for to oust the dreaded SNP.
People quite high up in both parties give their tacit approval for this.
It’s not been made clear to me why there is the visceral hatred for SNP from Scottish Labour. I asked an activist and he reminded me of the vote of no confidence that brought down Jim Callaghan’s govt. I did point out that this was the LibLab Pact that the Libs pulled out of and the first few parliaments at Holyrood were coalitions between Labour and the LibDems. He had no answer for this. The two parties should be ideal coalition partners with broadly similar views especially among members and voters. Holyrood was set up specifically in order to have coalitions and yet Labour have refused to participate for over a decade. The public rumbled this and stopped voting for them. Of course they may win some votes back with the focus on Murrell having redirected funds from Independence campaigning into ordinary election campaigning. Definitely mismanagement but not theft – unless there’s more to it..
