Just as it’s getting cold, Suella Braverman wants to ban the homeless from having tents
Here’s the story:
Suella Braverman wants to restrict use of tents used by rough sleepers (homeless) and fine charities that hand out tents to keep them warm, safe and dry. 🤬
Only a psychopath with zero humanity would plan to include it in new criminal justice bill. https://t.co/37aD1zlVG9

Here’s what Braverman herself has to say about it:
Unless we step in now to stop this, British cities will go the way of places in the US like San Francisco and Los Angeles, where weak policies have led to an explosion of crime, drug taking, and squalor. 2/4

What I want to stop, and what the law abiding majority wants us to stop, is those who cause nuisance and distress to other people by pitching tents in public spaces, aggressively begging, stealing, taking drugs, littering, and blighting our communities. 4/4

Here’s the response she has (rightly) received:
Just when you thought she couldn’t sink any lower, today Suella Braverman described sleeping on the street as “a lifestyle choice”.
She really is one of the nastiest, most callous politicians in Westminster.
And that’s saying something.

The untrammelled cruelty of a cabinet minister who here has the stone cold goading temerity to describe homelessness as a “lifestyle choice”.
She suggests in this odious thread that she speaks for the country. Does she? https://t.co/ktr27a3GBV

What do you call a person who wants to stop hopeless people using tents?
Who wants to fine charities that hand them out to them
…just as the temperature plummets and more people find themselves on the streets.
I can think of a word. https://t.co/Rt1WHa2FFo pic.twitter.com/4wdinbHq2T

In wanting to ban tents from Britains streets & fines for charities who hand them out to the homeless the Home Secretary is shamelessly blaming & criminalizing the most vulnerable members of our society for the national shame of the abject failure of her own government pic.twitter.com/eH3CMmR8sL

After thirteen years of Tory rule, an unprecedented number of people are sleeping in tents.
The Tory response is to ban tents.— James O'Brien (@mrjamesob) November 4, 2023
